Colin Bright – Artist Bio

I was born by the sea; my first memories are of dancing around the house to the music my mother had playing constantly on the radio. These songs heavily influenced me and started my love of music.

At the age of 8, I got my first guitar and started teaching myself to play. Over the years I have studied the history and theory of music, both of which helped me hone my musical skills.

I took influence from every type of music I heard on the radio, but especially country music and songs from the 60’s and 70’s, plus artists like Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, The Eagles… Over the years I have gained inspiration from a myriad of genres, but my biggest influence will always be singer-songwriters, like Tom Waits and Steve Earle, who sing songs that tell stories.

My personal musical roots stem from all these artists, and I soak up their talent like a sponge.

My Grandfather was a natural musician, playing banjo and fiddle, sadly, I never got the chance to meet him but, as I grew up, my family members who had known him said I was ‘just like him’.

Most of my free time has always involved music. Playing in bands, running, and performing at open-mic nights and teaching the guitar. I spent 12 months having regular singing lessons to improve my breathing techniques and my voice.

When I finished school, I studied chemistry and now, by day, work as a scientist. A job I love almost as much as music.

I take my music and my job as a scientist very seriously and get a huge amount of pleasure from both.

During lockdown, I revisited the idea of writing some original songs, I am very proud of all of them. I am certain they would compile an excellent album as soon as that opportunity presents itself.

Since lockdown restrictions ended, I have spent a lot of spare time busking, in order to grow my confidence and experience performing to an audience again after such a long time.
